GEI has extensive experience in providing geotechnical services during construction including inspection; field and laboratory testing of earthwork, base materials, and pavement; and consultation regarding geotechnical engineering issues which arise during construction. We provide field observation and testing to verify that site preparation, overexcavations and backfill placement and compaction conform to project plans and specifications. Our services are typically provided during clearing and grubbing, rough grading, building pad certification, foundation excavation, utility trench backfill, backfill around structures and retaining walls, and preparation of subgrade and placement of aggregate base in paved areas.

Our staff is very familiar with the field and laboratory testing necessary to properly characterize both soils and pavement materials. We are very familiar with both rigid and flexible pavement design and development of recommendations regarding site grading. We also provide construction observation and management services as well as
design and install instrumentation for monitoring structural performance.

We have the experience to perform all testing related to the placement of concrete and asphalt, and are familiar with the procedures for sampling of aggregate and sand to verify the concrete mix design; casting and compression testing of concrete cylinders; and with the procedures for sampling of aggregate both at the batch plant and during the placement of asphalt concrete in the field.
